Miles laughed. He did have a knack for taking a sincere moment and turning it into a farce. But if he was to win Sarah's heart, he had to make an effort to be genuine. He knew he could be honest with his feelings, but he always got so nervous, especially in front of Sarah. Making a joke, even when he was the butt of the fun, helped him feel secure. He feared that if he were serious that people would still laugh at him anyway.
